About Mimsy
My son Noah was three when we got his diagnosis. Before that, I’d spent a year feeling like I was failing him. The meltdowns came out of nowhere, in grocery stores, in the car, at bedtime. I’d try everything and nothing would reach him.
Then one afternoon, in the middle of a hard day, he picked up a cheap light-up wand from a birthday goody bag. He spun it and went quiet. His shoulders dropped and his breathing slowed. He just watched the colors move. I sat down next to him, and for the first time in weeks, I could breathe too.
I started carrying that wand everywhere. It became our reset button: the waiting room, the long drive, the hour before bed. But it was flimsy, the lights were harsh, and it broke within days. I looked everywhere for a better one made for kids like mine, and couldn’t find it.
So I made it. A sturdy clear globe, soft swirling color, nothing sharp, nothing loud, and a handle small hands can hold on to.
Mimsy is what Noah called it. It’s the toy that helps him calm down, and now it’s here for your child too.
I don’t know your hard days, but I know what it’s like to look for anything that helps. I hope this does for you what it did for us.
